QuickBooks Desktop 2023 stopped getting updates in May 2026. Insta reads your company file on the same computer, or the reports you export from it, and nothing posts until every balance ties out.
- 1 Connect or export Sign in to QuickBooks Online, open your Desktop file on the same computer, or drop in exported reports.
- 2 Map accounts and taxes Insta suggests how your accounts and tax codes line up. You confirm each one.
- 3 Tie out, then switch Trial balance, receivables, payables, bank balances and GST/HST must all match before anything posts.

Questions
Does my data leave my computer?
No. Your books are stored in an encrypted database on your machine. Insta only goes online to sign you in, fetch bank feeds you turn on, and send the emails you choose to send.
Which computers does it run on?
macOS and Windows. It installs like any other desktop app.
Can my accountant work in my books?
Yes. Export your company as one file and send it, or add your accountant as a user with the accountant role.
Can I bring my QuickBooks data?
Yes. Insta imports from QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, and from Excel or CSV exports of most other systems, and checks that every balance matches before it posts.
When does payroll arrive?
After the first release. It will cover CPP, EI and income tax deductions, remittances, T4s and records of employment, tested against CRA’s payroll calculator.
When can I start using it?
Insta Accounting is still in development. Join the early-access list and we will email you as soon as the first build is ready for Mac and Windows.
